Finally had arrived. The crunch of the old leaves inside told of how long this small cabin had been unoccupied. Maria found herself lucky to have found it at all, looking down at the crudely drawn map she had been given. This was by far the further into the forest she had even been. No sounds of the town or smell of the chimneys lingered in this place so far away.
This was the place the ones meant to die were sent. Though her illness had barely shown itself until now, the village had decided she wouldn't be able to contribute for much longer and thus was given a 'choice' to travel to this isolated place now or in the coming week. She was dressed in the solid red garb, a mark of one diseased and to be avoided. This was her only clothing now so she wouldn't be able to return to the village without being noticed immediately.
The provisions and meager supplies she was able to bring she knew wouldn't last that long. She felt thankful it was at least still summer but the fall and cold weather would be here before long.
Glancing around the single room dwelling she suddenly was hit with the realization of the whole situation. Gripping her arm with a trembling hand. She was scared.
