Because I sometimes cannot resist the urge to troll, I would occasionally slip in fake images into Ruby Quest discussion threads, anonymously. People said they looked like I had actually drawn them, because in fact, I had.

They were all inspired by the progression of the story itself but are obviously non-canon. In the case of the dummy here, this would almost have been better than what really happened.

The Dummy is still one of the most contested elements in all of Ruby Quest. The nature of the Dummy, the events surrounding it, and the implications of its presence are far-reaching throughout the story. Generally, people find the Dummy very creepy, but opinions on its exact nature vary widely.

The truth is I have my own ideas about the Dummy, but I may never release them.
This is true of just about everything related to anything I make: it's far more interesting to see what other people come up with than to simply state an inarguable single version and kill all discussion.
I love the ambiguity. If I weren't so ham-handed, there would have been even more of it.
