I bought a hatchet at a walmart and the grain orientation of the handle was so perfect that I couldn't not buy it.
So, what did was I took the head off the handle (injured myself in the process because they wacky glued it on with some kind of crap) and slimmed the handle down. The thing was like holding a block of wood. Absolutely painful and the awful lacquer they like to put on the handles so you get horrible blisters the first time ya use it added with the fact they're not actually sharp had to totally be changed.
The thing is a razor now, the handle feels good and actually fits my hand.

The only problem was, the thing needed a sheath. So, back to the leather work bench I go with cobbling something together.

This is the first time I've ever made belt loop integrated into the sheath itself and I'm still pretty new with leatherworking regardless, but I think this worked out great.

I had a hell of a time sewing the thing together, trying to push the sewing awl through 4 layers of 3 mm thick leather even with holes put in is a horribly exerting task. It all came out well, though.
