Fahren's all grown up now. He's finally the mighty, graceful being he was always meant to be. It's been a long road.. but we made it.. and we're still going strong.

This is the first look at Fahren's new design that I've been considering doing for a while now. All grown up into a late stage adult, not quite to elder or ancient stages of life yet, but getting there. He is more than double the size he was in the last ref sheet, and night furies of this size, strength, and durability, no longer need to stay black to hide in the shadows. Fahren's lineage as a glass fury, specifically, goes a few steps further in the flair department, becoming one of the most incredibly dazzling in the genus.
All of his scars now heal into a gold color as well, being more of a personally significant thing to me than a biologically accurate thing, as they signify the fact that all the hardships I've weathered have made me a better person, and they are every bit as important and influential to the person I have become today as anything else.
I'm not entirely sure this is his final iteration, but I do feel like it's pretty close. I'll probably tweak some things here and there, but they might be so minor that I'll just update this submission file rather than post a new picture--that is, until I get a full on, in-depth ref sheet like the previous one.

Kintsukuroi: To "repair with gold"; the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver laquer, understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken.
-Thank you
DrUnevil for showing me that this is an actual thing! I didn't even know about this while making this drawing!

I've always been such a huge fan of white marble, gold, and ESPECIALLY opals, I just HAD to finally create the persona that truly reflects me rather than one that so strictly sticks to the canon of the movie. To be fair, every change to a person's persona is a reflection of who they are at the time they're made, so I wouldn't say that plain black Fahren WASN'T the full expression of myself back then. I've just wanted to make something that really makes me sit back and go "WOW. YES!!" when I see it. Hopefully, it does the same for you! Very very happy with the way this turned out. ^^
I must say you look gorgeous with gold and white, however not gonna lie I'd almost call you a Light Fury with the coloration~ X3
Either way you're beautiful and that'll never change, especially what you've turned yourself into over the past few years. It can only get better from here for you <3
Hope you're doing great Fahren. Much love 💜💜💜

REEEEEEE!! NU! I AM NIGHT FURY! ALWAIS NIGHT DERG! XD
But thank you SO MUCH! I am definitely in love with this new look. It's definitely everything I could've hoped for when I first thought of it.
Aw- awwwww.... thank you.. so much.. That means the world to me. I definitely have been through a lot, that's for sure.. But I have each and every one of you to thank for helping me become the person I am today. I love you all.
I definitely am, and I hope the same goes for you. All the loves!! *Scoops you all up with my huge arms and snuggles close.*

Truly amazing design - of depth and introspection, full of existential happiness. Everything plays harmoniously together both visually and conceptually... unity internalized, derived from pure chaos of life.
P.S. I wonder how that huge overhaul influenced that one specific concealed part, as it was very significant and... outstanding in the previous design.
MARVELLOUS!

Existential happiness.. that is SUCH a good way to put it. It's..
yeah. It's just perfect.
And thank you so much; what a compliment! I am utterly flattered.
Hehe, I have been thinking about that~ but I honestly don't know what design or color changes, if any, I want to make in that regard. What did you like so much about the previous design? Feedback from you and from anyone else reading this would be greatly appreciated, actually.

Remembering art of Fahren, I feel like each one of the pieces adds to his character, explores him deeply. Being very established and thought-out, the previous design isn't constraining in any way: the more detail is revealed - the broader the possibilities feel. And there's a curious duality to him - two different physical forms that look and feel quite different and at the same time represent him as one personality. Each version of Fahren is made in "form from function" manner where sexuality plays a central role which makes him what I envision dragons to be - a vessel for the humanity of its creator with the emphasis on the intimate side. What stays mostly hidden in real life is revealed here in its pure form (with impressive attention to detail in this case).
Besides all that I especially like a choice of hemipenis as it brings funky uncanny vibes to the otherwise ordinary dragon appearance. It's that challenging note any true art should have - a wild touch to spark curiosity or invite on a journey to the unknown. Such handling when considering artistic choices is a common theme with your creations and it's one of the reasons behind your art being unique, making me come back to it periodically :)
A revision shown here resulting in color changes, tweaks or touch-ups of Fahren's nether region and it's particular functionality makes great sense to me - with such change between the two designs I almost~ expect? private parts to change as well.. imagining them unchanged I think they'd complement this new look very well! (but as a viewer I'd like to see as many iterations as possible, of course). There's still a question: How could that change look like?
P.S. It's important to remember that art itself is one thing and what happens when people see it is another thing. I'm excited to see what comes next no matter when or how that happens. Thank you very much for making it! ^^

Wow.. this is the most flattering, wonderful comment I think I've ever gotten! I'm.. a bit lost for words, honestly! Just.. thank you!! So much! Honestly, I have always wondered if anyone really knew and appreciated the amount of time and effort that went into the creation and continuous updating of Fahren's character and biological realism. This comment alone makes it all feel worth it. Thank you so so much. I agree with the vessel idea, too, but not only just with the intimate things, but even the creative and wholesome things, too. My family might know I like HTTYD a lot or whatever, but they don't get it despite me trying to explain, so I never talk about it, and certainly never show them any of my art, so in essence, this FA page, and all you guys are really the only people to ever know the real me to begin with, both in NSFW and just regular SFW things. (Again, thank you for that. You really flatter me. >w<)
SAME HERE! I can't believe nobody draws their dragons with real hemipenes, especially given how prevalent they are in basically every reptile alive today! I definitely do understand the appeal of the "normal" penises you find drawn on everything, hence why I, too, have a normal penis version, but the fact that there are like NO other characters with realistic hemipenes is ASTONISHING to me. GAH! Thank you thank youuuuu!! I really appreciate that you notice and appreciate all these things, seriously.
Aw man, now I actually kinda feel bad about changing the design so drastically. I honestly didn't think anybody noticed or really cared about Fahren. Heck, I even remember being lightly berated on e621 for having too normal of a night fury, so if anything, I kinda felt like I HAD to do something more flashy to stand out. To be fair, I have ALWAYS thought about doing something like this, so it's not like this stems from any sort of bullying or attention seeking, this WAS genuinely just done out of love, but still.
I HAVE actually been considering a redesign for the hemipenes, too; heck, almost since the day I originally made them. They are straight up ripped off of a trace over I once made of real savannah monitor hemipenes, and I always felt weird about that. It was too.. unoriginal.. for my liking, though to be fair, who am I to talk about original content, I stole my persona species from the MAIN CHARACTER of the biggest dragon movie trilogy basically of all time (TOOTHLESS IS THE MAIN CHARACTER, IF YOU DISAGREE, FIGHT ME. XD) But ANYWAY! I HAVE tried drawing a few alternate iterations of hemipenes on my own time and I have just never been happy with any of them. They're really really hard to design to make look any good because hemipenes inherently just.. don't look good. I'm still trying, but if you or anyone else has any ideas or inspirations I could take a look at, it would honestly be greatly appreciated. Links in FA notes should you find any.
Honestly, I haven't pushed forward with any ideas for new hemipenes or even a regular membered version of this new Fahren because I'm too afraid of disappointing anyone, or even just coming up with an unpopular design. I.. I dunno.. I'm actually super stuck on this and am even considering not ever making NSFW content for this new version for the same reason. I could actually use encouragement/help on the design. ><;
I appreciate that. I really need to work on my confidence because, unfortunately, I'm usually overly concerned with how I am perceived, which I feel limits me greatly sometimes. But engaging conversations in comments like this really helps more than you could ever know, seriously. And thank you so much for everything. I'll TRY not to disappoint..

Reading this I smiled the whole time :)
This new Fahren will look absolutely gorgeous in SFW art! I like the white and gold combination the more I look at it, the marble pattern seems endlessly beautiful and reminds me of traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking - there's a way they made patterns on clothes look hyper-reallistic (https://youtu.be/bfd4QWzIqdc?t=597), and white marble also looks like you can keep zooming at it - hypnotic almost, like the Mandelbrot set or other fractals. Unreasonably detailed work is difficult to make and come by but it's timeless in a way and making a piece like that in this design is yet another possibility!
Being limited because of confidence sucks, it produces anxiety and makes it tempting to try and control the situation by, for example, listening closely to comments people make about you. That way you decrease a possibility of bad comments, which gets rid of a little bit of anxiety, and is nice but doesn't really work out in the end... Why? The crucial thing is that by controlling the situation to mitigate anxiety you make it that no matter how good or bad the comments turn out you end up with less confidence each time you do it. And this vicious circle tightens further. The thing about confidence is that the best way to gain it is to fail. Making it possible to fail and then going at it is confidence after all! Trying to ease the control over the situation is your way out - the less control you exert the higher your confidence gets irrespective of the resulting experience be it comments or something else.
Another good question for artists to think about - Why do you value the reasons that they think you do it over why you actually do it? When you make art you essentially bring something from the inside of your being into the real world and satisfying the need to do that is a major reason people become artists! Comments and community are awesome additions to that, but being added after art is complete and shared makes them separate, existing on another layer altogether. Separating art from the creator and creations from reactions is a good practice that helps keep art healthy for everyone involved!
P.S. If I managed to do that - you can do it too, no doubt in my mind. Keep trying and good luck ;)
