So I realised recently that it's about 12 months since the real body meme circulated FA. Figured maybe it was time for a fresh picture.
I've never been and never will be a natural athlete. Other people pick up exercising, get fitter and stronger than me, faster than I do, and move on. My genetic heritage is rubbish, giving me poor complexion, mild asthma, and putting me on a number of high risk lists for things that will probably kill me before I retire, and dip me in and out of hospital every few years.
None of this is an excuse however. None of it is a reason not to try. So I strap on my wrist weights and go out on the run, or I unfold the rowing machine and haul on the cable until my fingers are calloused. My friends think I'm slightly crazy.
Where's it got me? Well, I've dumped some of last year's belly fat, though I still poke over the edge of the shorts a little - working on that! Muscle tone is a little better, arms a little thicker, my legs a little stronger. Finally cracked 2 miles in 20 minutes. Still lacking across the chest and upper body in general, but that's my next target.
I am not buff, I am not strong, I am not the sort of guy that girls chuck their knickers at. I'm just a work in progress - but I am progressing, and I'll be damned if I don't have at least a little pride on that front :)

i dislike exercising a lot ^ ^'
and you actually don't burn all too many calories with it, despite what people say. the best is to cut down and exercise. but i really hate exercising alone and right now my mom can't go out and do it with me because a tear in the meniscus under the knee joint

Hehe, well you know, I'd kind of like some actual muscles on my chest rather than just ribs and skin xD And maybe some abs that don't need a strong sideways light source see any hint of them ^^ I dunno, I seem to be genetically programmed for about a half inch of subcutaneous fat around my middle, the latter may never happen.
I confess the top hat (and colour coordination) were added in after the photo. Fortunately the shorts were present all along, because nobody needs that mental image! :o

Hehe, I never did understand the appreciation for muscular types. I think this bodytype is just fine. :)
And darn. It sure would be interesting to see someone jogging down the road in a top hat, haha.
The art looks good, too. I like the legs. :) I'd like to see a breakdown of your art process one of these days. It looks really interesting.

Not sure I'm really aiming for muscular... but right now I look a lot like my dad, and I don't like that knowledge :P
Art's pretty simple - sketch on paper, ink digitally by hand, flat colours under the lines, single shade layer on top (something I pulled from one of your sketch uploads ages ago :D )

Lol, truth be told, I despise the inking process... I find it slow, cumbersome, and unsatisfying. Tried it on a few pictures before and while it went ok, it took a very long time and didn't really seem to add anything. And I had real problems with sharp curves and angles, tended to distort all the little details just a tiny bit :(
If I was doing flat cell shading I think it would still ink, but by and large you're right that I'm more interested in light, shade, and texture than in smooth outlines. Like to start with a solid 50% shade on the whole shape, then use a 10-15% opacity eraser - gives a nice effect of painting with light and seems to generate better highlighted areas. Not sure if I pinched that trick off you or not xD
Ohw, and I tend to colour the lines too, prefer outlining areas with darker shades of themselves rather than solid black
