As with many of my comics, this really happened.
Also as with many of my comics, I'm much happier with the idea/script than the execution (very sloppy!).
You're not seeing things--Hob's coloring really does look different in every panel. I'm experimenting with various combinations of marker & pencil, trying to find a look that I like (turns out I'm not happy with any of them).
On cardstock, with micron, colored pencil, marker

Oh yes certainly!
Hob suggested that he was just a brown bear. Then I told him that he was a koala (partly because I dig drawing the ears, but mostly because I found a pick of a koala that has his exact expression when I'm being all weird).
He's been in a handful of comics since. ^__^
