Doodle attempt to reproduce a "realistic version" of Lena compared to a fox photo I found. Yuck. Anyway this is why I try to toon up my furries now.

I agree, attempting realism is quite a difficult one. I'm aiming for such though - but, it'll still be quite a far journey from where I'm at now, heh! I'm still trying to figure out the best shapes, proportions, and other sizing, that is the closest to realism. Then I'll probably move onto detailing and shading after I figure that out.
If you wish, I could attempt a speed draw of this in a similar style to see how it could work.

Go for it if you want. I've been leaning heavily into stylization myself, since Furry is by default stylized art. Truth be told I've never been much of a realistic type but still spend a lot of time looking at anatomy just to try to figure out where things go and what someone "expects" a certain species to look like.
Sorry for such a late response, but, I finally got to it! Oooh, I see I see, and, that is true, stylized art! You can never truly get picture perfect, well, some furries have, but, that's a lot of dedication, time, and energy to pour!
Oh I see, that makes sense. As you do want to have that shape, that general familiarity.
Oh and, here's my take : https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....otoAttempt.png - my drawn version is on the top. I'm mostly used to drawing canines, so, I might've made it a bit more dog-like on accident, but, it's something, heh!

Really? Lol, glad I could help. But yes, I've found that the trick to tracing isn't to follow the outline of it but to make a set of shapes that fit inside the original then curve over them. Here's a good video on construction/deconstruction with shapes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ9LRsU8Mfs
