Triso fuel spheres are very durable, and are tested against many different kinds of mechanical shock. Is whacking one with a chunk of control rod a good test for that? Well the only way to know is through experiment! Definitely no other way to know if this is a good idea or not, that's for sure.
kavaeric recruited the three of us through Twitter to help him design nuclear power plants for a simulation game he's working on. So of course now that we were all working for him, we had to think of an activity to do on the company picnic! This was the result. It was a lot of fun to really dig deep into design and reactor theory stuff again. That's the kind of deep magic that you don't get into much as an operator. I hope more fun stuff comes out of our collaboration!
