I though the changelings reformed, why would he want to still eat love?

I think the reformed changelings can still eat love, they just simply prefer to avoid hurting others. Anyways, the poor Sparkly is kinda hungry and eating love would be the easiest thing right now hehe.

I can genuinely see being loved by the babies of all the species that are in, or that positively interact with, Equestria, loving a Changeling. Sparkly Emerald could get lots of laughs by changing his form while also being able to become a 'Caretaker Form' that would help soothe a baby who is sad. He may even get overweight from the amount of love he would be able to, without harm to any child, feed upon from the number of babies he is around.

If I was better in going through past submissions in a FIFO / First-In First-Out, I would have seen this before I commented on the picture you did of Goldigony and Sparkly Emerald. Do you think Sparkly may know Thorax? Could it be possible that, like Thorax, Sparkly did not feel Queen Chrysalis' efforts to feed herself and her children was the right way to feel satiated?

It is fun thinking of a possible story where Thorax, after the attack on Canterlot in Season 2, discovers that he is not the only Changeling who thought the attack on ponies was wrong. The two may talk in secret about how they want to find another way to acquire their nutrition. This eventually leads Thorax to 'The Crystal Empire' while Sparkly, already familiar with Canterlot as a result of being there for the attack, decides to return with the hope of better understanding why, like Thorax, his ability to follow the 'Hive Mind' just did not feel like the right thing to do.

Well. I'm pretty sure that Sparkly knows Thorax since the hive is a pretty small place and all changelings seems to know each other. Sparkly has an adventurous soul and he is really smart. He found that the hive was a bit to small for his ambitions and decided to take advantage of the newest programs for exchange students that Equestria had started since the relationships with changelings improved drastically. Just imagine the tourists incomes that Equestria will receive from this!

However, it is possible that the program didn't include resources for food or at least not until the studies started, and well, Sparkly is probably not to used to this concept of money in the pony lands and he didn't know what to do. Sparkly could of course, transform himself to look like a caretaker and take advantage of looking like other pony in someway, but I think that, first, he knows that this behavior is incorrect knowing what did Chrysalis in the past, and second, I'm pretty sure that changelings transformations are limited by their visas to prevent any kind of "activities against integrity of other creatures in local lands". So, yeah, Ocellus for example is allowed to transform herself when playing with her friends, but I'm sure that abusing of this skill, especially for illegal purposes, is punished with deportation. Sparkly knew perfectly all of this and he thought that probably a dark coated changeling wasn't the cutest creature... unless, he wear a diaper of course. This way everypony was going to focus their attention to a "big baby changeling"? Anyway, it was going to result cute sooner or later, receiving finally the love that he required to fill his tummy.

The young changeling could fix all of this just with a quick visit to the castle or a letter to Thorax to see how he could maintain himself before the studies started? Yes, but he is the kind of creature who wants to find solutions by himself and he preferred to do the things in his own way. Don't get surprised if Celestia, Luna or even Twilight realizes that a changeling is asking for food in the Canterlot streets and quickly tell him that he doesn't need to beg for food.

You have Sparkly really well developed, Sweetie. I like the details you have put into rules and regulations for Changelings who are within Equestria's borders. That is something I never thought about and it makes a lot of sense to have such policies in place.

Is Sparkly older than Ocellus? The way you describe his interest in learning, I feel he would be a great mentor for the studious member of 'The Student 6'. If he did work at a daycare facility in Canterlot, perhaps Ocellus would go on to do an internship / job shadow with him to see how she can use her experience at 'The School of Friendship' to live happily in Equestria? Maybe, if this situation would happen, Ocellus would want to return to 'The Changeling Hive' to oversee 'The Hatchery' / 'Nursery' to give newborn Changelings a great start through a combination of sharing love for each other and knowledge of the world and how they can be a part of so much beyond the hive?

In reality, one of my favorite activities in fiction is imagining how fictional politics (in the entire sense of the word) may work. I have indeed designed a pretty detailed bureaucratic system for Euqestria and that's the main reason because I wrote Diapers, Please. I know, I'm really boring, real bureaucracy sucks, but for me it is also a really interesting topic to explore to enrich a story and a universe. If I'm not wrong, for example this in an important topic in Star Wars, right?

Anyways, focusing in your questions. I think Sparkly is a bit older than Ocellus, and yeah, he is really thirsty for knowledge, the main difference here is that he wants to learn about magic. Pretty much like Twilight in her young student year, he is more focused in the raw knowledge than making friends. Probably, sooner than later he will also find "the magic of friendship" or maybe not and he will be focused just in learning more about magic. Maybe in the future he could find that the School of Friendship is a really nice place to learn, but for now he is focused in the academic paradise that Canterlot should be for magic creatures like him.

Now I have to wonder if he and Moondancer would become friends? The two certainly could benefit from each other and their passion for learning.

As for politics, I find they exist more in "Star Trek" than "Star Wars". However, 'Star Wars' does have a fair amount of politics in Episodes 1, 2, and 3.

Star Trek, on the other hoof, shows how politics must be naviagated to avoid wars, make trade agreements, and further knowledge of our host glaxy.

Politics, when not used to weaponize people like they do in The United States, are a good thing. They help form a sense of 'order' and offer representation without having to personally involve yourself in various meetings all throughout the lands. Given the nature of ponies, I feel you may seldom, if ever, find one that is corrupt. (Nightmare Moon does not count and King Sombra was a dictator upon conquering The Crystal Empire.)
