Once their digital and analog radio transmissions were deciphered into coherent video imagery, the players managed to get a look at the alien race they'd spooked a slower than light probe of.
Though trying to study their insystem radio traffic was like drinking from a firehose, a few immediate important facts from the 3 days of multi-channel recordings they were able to acquire, as well as a huge sample of their language(s).
- Their homeworld is balkanized. At least one state seems to be at war with another on the ground.
- They've colonized both their moons, and have research outposts (on the equivalent of kuiper belt objects, as far out as twice the distance between Sol and Pluto.
- Several of their nationalities claim different bodies of their system's asteroid belt.
- They seem to use video broadcast for educational programs for their young, advertising, news, ceremony, action/adventure entertainment, propaganda, cooking and gardening programs.
- They appear to be a post avian race (very distant past evolutionary), and have at least two, maybe three genders, lay eggs, and, when not fighting, are actively involved in what looks like natural conservationism and fairly aggressive advertising.
- Feather, skin and beak coloration appear to be genetic subsets of the race as a whole, though after some additional study, beak and feather dying appear to account for some of the variation.
- Adults appear to range between 4.5 and 5.5 feet tall. No hatchling was ever displayed on screen less than 2 feet tall, which may be taboo, or indicate very large eggs, though the pelvises of what are thought to be their females don't appear to be able to pass an egg even half that size.
