Whilst Never had proved to be resistant to the effects of the ship, it seems that the other missing operative... hadn't.
Pelt was already incredibly powerful, able to take a lot of punishment and increase his mass, strength, and constitution to incredible levels. Normally, his own drawback was his nature... timid and self-conscious, he didn't really want to hurt anyone.
Now however, stripped of his inhibitions and soaked in otherworldly energies... he alone provided a threat that it took the whole hero team working together to take down.
Mission accomplished, operatives found, now they just have to get out of there. But that's for next issue...
