Alexander was filled with excitement for the coming weekend. The small moomba had officially moved into the penthouse and their rented apartment was but a simple memory of the past. It was time to look to the future. Looking over the bookshelf titles there was a new section of ‘ASL’ that they had been flipping through and memorizing as best as possible. His asl was still not completely proficient but enough to talk to the sergal and allow him to feel involved in the conversation. The hour grew late and although Ankor had stated not to stay up the joy of seeing the handsome male again was keeping his mind awake.
Stepping off the boat the male gazed up to the small ocean city and then up the hill to the hotel and lastly the penthouse seeing there was a dim light there. He could hear a muttering of words but it wasn’t clear what. He turned to see Yudan waving at him and mouthing, ‘You alright?’ He rubbed his ears and nodded and gave an ‘ok’ with his fingers before making his way up the hill. The concern on the hybrid didn’t go unnoticed; no one knew what he was going through and he refused to speak of it. His fists tightened as he let out a deep breath and relaxed his hands at his sides then placed them in his slacks and tilted his head up as his mind distracted itself by other thoughts. Alexander was a male. The entire time he had believed him to be a female. The way he presented himself physically was that of a girl and then his soft-spoken voice which was feminine. A part of him had felt betrayed but at the same time, he hadn’t even bothered to ask which made him at fault.
The elevator door slid open to the penthouse and he inhaled a different scent than he was used to. Candles were around the room and it seemed there were different scents but the one lit at the glass table by the round sofa smelt of pine. He made note that there were new installations of LED lights along the ceiling and floorboards; the room was lit in a cyan-blue which made his eyes relax and adjust. He saw the bookshelves neatly placed and filled with a variety. He made a mental note that there was quite an assortment containing ASL. A small smile graced his face as he heard a shuffling he peered over to the bed and saw a familiar kit in his bed hugging his pillow. Slowly he approached and looked to the bedside seeing the music box.
Expression went sullen as he frowned and touched the leather-bound with his fingertips. The sound of the tune was still in his head and he hoped he wouldn’t forget it but perhaps the more he embedded it into his head the less he won’t forget it. Eyes slowly looked to the back of the sleeping boy in his bed. There were so many conversations between them but somehow it seemed foreign or behind a mirror of the reality that was before him. As much as he wanted to wake him from his slumber, he decided to let him continue. They would share words in the morning.
Silently he moved to the couch, gently blowing out the candle he then took the remote which seemed to be for the LEDs and he powered them off. Still dressed, he sat back in the couch seat as his neck fell back over the trim and arms stretched over the back. Not an ideal sleeping situation but he refused to disturb the kit and he had honestly slept in worse conditions. His thoughts muddled with conversations that may happen tomorrow and how much it may bring them closer or tear them apart.
There was a painful ringing in his ears which caused his face discomfort and upon adjusting his neck the stiffness hadn’t helped. When his eyes opened, he found that the moomba was laying on the couch with his head upon his leg. Rubbing the back of his stiff, sore neck, his eyes peered to a clock the fell back to the kit. With a small sigh, he gently took the shoulder firmly of the kit and gave a few gentle squeezes. Seeing them stir he waved his hand and motioned to them if they wanted a drink.
Alexander was sitting up rubbing his tired eyes as the baggy long tee drooped over to one shoulder. A yawn was seen then a fist went up waving up and down in a ‘yes’ to the drink remark. He seemed to shudder and rub his shoulders as though missing the warmth of the sheets. The warmth of the sergal left him but was replaced with a blanket. He grinned up to Ankor and pulled the blanket closer and curled in a sitting position on the couch. “You didn’t wake me, when did you get in?”
Ankor was pouring tea for them both, his eyes and hands focused on the task at hand. He hadn’t even heard the moomba’s chatter and when returning to the couch with a tray with the teas, sugar, honey, etc. He was greeted with a glare. Seeing this he motioned [What?].
The boy took the tea and loaded the tea and honey in the cup then sipped it speaking and signing, “I asked when you got in, then you ignored me. Are you mad at me? Did I do something wrong?” The tiredness made his face look more solemn and pale but he did worry that perhaps there was something that he could have done to upset him. “If it’s the lights or candles, I can-” There was a finger placed to his lips and he peered up at Ankor and brought the tea back to his lips and watched the other male speak with his hands.
[I’m not ignoring you. I didn’t hear you; I apologize. I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a little upset. I know I am partially to blame on that end but it still came as a shock to me. Before you ask if it is a problem, it is not. I have bever been one for preference regarding such instances.]
Alexander blushed lightly with embarrassment, “Oh, I hadn’t even realized you hadn’t known.” There was a small smile now on his lips, “You thought I was pretty enough to resemble a girl?” Seeing the sergal nod and the hint of color on his cheek made him grin and giddily sip more of the cup contents. “I’m sorry I didn’t state my gender or pronouns sooner. I hadn’t even thought of it. You seem disappointed though; were you hoping I was a girl?” A frown on his lips as he watched the striking male beside him. A sense of nerves made him grip the cup tighter in his small fingers.
Ankor sighed sitting forward as he began to sign, [I wasn’t expecting anything. It didn’t matter to me because I was more focused on getting to know you. Your gender role may have confused me though it was never my primary goal to woe you. Your gender doesn’t matter to me. I never had a preference.] He hesitated as he gazed down to the floor and signed slower, [I truly believe I don’t deserve it.] Seeing the male across from him grow stiff and eyes furrow he had a feeling he was about to see an explosion from the kit.
Alexander began to speak quickly and signed what words he did know, “Are you kidding me? How could you think that? Why do you think you don’t deserve to be happy?! That’s a horrible thought! I don’t know what you did in your past to make you feel that way but that isn’t what you ‘DESERVE’.” Flustered he flicked his wrists from signing so furiously. “I won’t pry but I want to know why you feel that way. I want an actual answer Ankor.”
[Does it matter?]
“Yes, it does to me. Because you matter.” A hint of color flushed his cheeks which he took the time to rub as if trying to hide it. After taking a deep breath he continued, “I know it’s only been a couple of months but I feel like I hardly know anything about you. I want to know you. All of you. Good. Bad. Everything. I know you will open up slowly but I do want to know you Ankor.”
He watched the kit carefully and listened watching their signing; he had gotten quite proficient in the small amount of time. A hint of pride was in his tight chest knowing that he had gone to such lengths to please him. [Then the past times have not been enough for you. What does that make us? What do you want?] His cyan eyes locked with the male beside him, he needed to know what Alexander wanted.
Alexander stared with a hint of shock, “What do I want? I want you. I thought it had been clear.” His face furrowed and there seemed to be a hint of frustration, “Am I wasting my time? Because I would really hate to-to... What?” He stared at Ankor who had a gentle smile despite his stoic disposition it was handsome. Feeling his heart flutter, he reached out touching his hands in his own, “Read my lips- I want us to be an item. If I date you, I want to know you. I don't mean your favorite color, food, and your middle name. Of course, I want to know those, too, but I mean, tell me about the time you broke your arm trying to hoist the sails for your seventh time. Tell me the nightmares you have, the struggles you've dealt with if you ever felt or feel alone. Tell me if there's a voice in your head that tells you ‘You're not good enough’ So I can yell at you that it’s wrong. Tell me your secrets, your thoughts, about your childhood, how you got any scars on your fur, if you ever sucked your thumb or pluck your eyebrows, pick your nose. Tell me about your first love and heartbreak. I want to know everything about you and I won’t settle for the short version. You are a poet. Weave me a story of your truths.”
Ankor was at a loss for words. He stared at the moomba unable to form words but seeing the insistency in his eyes he waved his hands. [I’m sorry. You caught me off guard and yet I expected a talk like this before.] Looking down at the small hands he took them gently in his and smiled as he placed a kiss upon the digits. He could hear and feel the heart of the other racing now and the warmth radiating off them from his actions. Had he always had this power over the young male? Hands released him as he began, [It has taken me this long to be sure but I see now how dedicated you are towards what we could have.] He paused a moment and watched the boy go stiff and seem to hold their breath. [Ali, will you go out wi-] A grunt as he felt arms suddenly wrap around his neck tightly. He could feel the excitement from the kit and heard the pounding of his heart as his body seemed to pulse and tail wagging. Clearly, a yes. Ankor embraced the thin body and inhaled the scent on his hair. Lilacs? Perhaps some other flower but it left him to relax back with a soft sigh. Thoughts raced through his mind of how this was going to work and how long he could keep the kit happy but for once he was more than willing to put in the effort. His eyes stared at the kit who was concerned and stared in confusion and then when his lips moved, he frowned.
“Ankor, I’ve been speaking but you haven’t given me an answer. Are you uncertain?” Alexander was watching him with intent eyes and was worried by the look on his face. Ankor always did seem to attempt to hide his emotions but now he could see that the regal sergal with a normal blank expression looked sad. Was he having second thoughts already? The boy worried but tried not to jump to any conclusions.
[No. I am certain I want to date you. I had thought of asking sooner but I wanted to be certain that I could ask you properly in person. I apologize it is not as formal as something out of a book.] His frown deepened, [Something you need to know about me. It’s difficult for me to tell as I haven’t told anyone.] He looked away and then slowly back to him, [Ali, I have Meniere's disease.]
