Almost out of Time [By LeafpathForNow_Art]
Deep down in the ocean, Dorra the dolphin got herself in quite some trouble. While exploring a shipwreck, a rusty door fell shut behind her!
She tried what she could to escape herself but her flippers were neither useful for prying a door open, not to unhinge a porthole window.
Her only hope was her diving partner - a certain vaporeon who had explored a different part of the wreck. Unfortunately it wasn't until they'd normally have gone for the surface, that she noticed the trouble.
Now she desperately works to open her friend's door while the air-breathing watertype's lungs are protesting as well. On the other side, Dorra tries to reach her blowhole with her flippers to keep more of her air in.
Either attempts appear to be in vain though... The door does not budge and precious bubbles still burst from the cetacean every time her chest spasms. Soon their cheeks begin to turn purple...
What can the two do to have a chance of surfacing with dry lungs...?

It has been hard to find an artist who's capable of drawing a dolphin out of breath, but they made it first try! :3 Huge thanks!
EDIT: Since that comes up on every other submission now - here a link to Varra's background story explaining why she cannot breathe underwater:

IIrc the urge of air in human beings are controlled by brain stem and hypothalamus (along with some other parts), and it detects levels of CO2, in other words if you stop breathing for an extended period of time, the urge to breathe comes from heightened levels of CO2 in your body. To be honest, I'm not so sure if this works in a similar way for dolphins by replacing brain stems with brain, or they just instinctively know how long they would be able to hold their breath safely and then also instinctively time themselves or something. Not sure but it might be that they just go straight to brain dead if they stay submerged for way too long?
Btw dolphins' mouth aren't connected to their airways, their blowholes are, so they could open their mouth all they want with zero risk of inhaling water.
