Gillian Mc'Dunnis, Storm Warden Tech Marine (of the imperium
Gillian mcdunnis is a character I recently made to play in Deathwatch (The new 40k roleplaying game)
He's a Storm Warden, which is pretty much like a Scottish highlander... so he wears a kilt, and his "combat knife" is a claymore that he reforged from his childhood.
His servo arm (the thing on his back that looks like an arm) is effectively a power fist, so it's a 4 fingered hand that can lift heavy shit and allow me to reduce folks to a fine mist.
He's pretty much a badass. I've fired one shot, but killed many heretics :3

haaaw. you're right x3
I'm mixing RPGs in my head :D
x3
I've never played either of them >3> personally I hate the imperium, and think it'd make for a more rich experience to play as someone like the Tau, who are less interested in destroying all xenos and more interested in expanding their empire.
and don't think that being a marine makes you an un harmable super soldier. we almost died several times because of our librarians. holy fuck. one almost opened a hole in the warp and summoned a demon prince :x

Yeah I was going to say, this didn't sound like a Dragon Age: Origins character. :P
Meh, one thing you have to accept about 40k is that "everybody sucks." Imperium and Tau are the "Ugly Truth" and "Beautiful Lie," they complement each other. But personally, I prefer Rogue Trader. You play a "normal" human at the pinniacle of physical ability with a license to gain profit and prestige almost any way you see fit. XD Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. :P
Could have fooled me with some of the stats the sample marines have. Then again, it sounds like your game master has adjusted the difficulty appropriately. XD

it's psychic powers x3
they're.. dangerous. and one of our librarians likes to push it.
and yeah, I'll agree with you on that to a degree. where as the imperium are basically barbarians (Destroying things that they don't understand or that scare them) the tau are sort of like the roman empire - absorbing civilizations that will join with them, and destroying anything else that gets in it's way.
they're both bad in their own way, but I prefer the tau way of doing things x3
also: Humanity bores me
they should make a game where you play as imperial guard. it could be called "Imperial Reserve"
and it's name will be derived from both the fact that you're called up from the guard reserve, and that you'll be making lots of reserve characters to replace your constantly dieing troops :D

Apparently some of your librarians are idiots then. But hey, that's part of the rush of being a Space Marine.
Well, considering that three of the four "bad guys" of the setting are settling for nothing less then extingiushing or corrupting all life in the galaxy. And the the three "good guy" races are "religious zealots," "racist psychics," and "naive technophiles who are largely under mindcontrol."
Now, a Tau supplement from FFG WOULD be awesome. I'd love running a Tau version of a Rogue Trader or working with a mixed crew on the Eastern Fringe. But hey, the Imperium was a much easier launchpoint the other races.
PS: Dark Heresy has a Guardsman career, representing a soldier who had been requested by the Inquisition. They are the primary ass-kickers in DH's low-end games, evolving into Stormtroopers once you reach an Acension level game (where your Inquistion team is more or less on the same level as a Space Marine squad.)
