I like these two already!
Hmm... Names, you say? Well, are they Dungeons and Dragons Gnolls or World of Warcraft Gnolls? Click a link to get ten random names (if you don't like any of those, refresh the screen). This one lets you choose male or female names.

I found some names already, thank you. ^^
the guy's name will be Bongoyé, after misheard lyrics from Camilla Carvelho's latest song... her name is Alzey (city in germany, along Rhine).
there will also be a "brown hyena" gnoll bard named Quibeldey, derived from the name of a guy who helps making docu movies at some german TV channel... no idea where that name comes from. but it sounded too good to pass.
and lastly, an anteating hyena thief girl named Mömbris, after a small town some KM away from Dortmund.
germany's map is full of funny names. XD

I've had Dortmunder beer -- it's both a style and a brewery.
As for weird names -- many owns in the U.S. are named after places in the U.K., for obvious reasons (in my area, Hartford, New London, Manchester, Waterford, Mansfield). There are towns in England whose names were never touched for locales in the U.S. because they were just way too weird.
That said, there's a town nearby (I used to go out with a girl from there) called Bozrah, but there's little agreement on where the name came from, over 200 years ago.

Hellhole?... I don't understand the other two.
The abundance of the local funny names is something to behold, though. A zoom in on the Google map in a completely random spot immediately gave me village names which are, in translation to English for better understanding: Government Stream, New Children (next to Old Children), Jewish Will, Big Ankles, Doorknob, Italy (don't ask me why)...

yes, hellhole. the others translate to "Butt" in a courteous way (human bottoms), the other means "Misery". somewhere around Hannover there are three villages which, if you read them in the right order, result in something very below the waistline in the local dialect.
there are also at least three "Amerika" and two "Kanada" around germany, founded by people who went to emigrate, but ran out of funds on the way, and just settled somewhere convenient. so, their letters CAME from Amerika... the village, not the country. but, still. :)
