This is what happens when I 'sit' on a sketch for too long - I go overboard on it! Originally,
pandragon and I were going to do a sketchbook trade. One little problem: I'd forgotten my main sketchbook. :< I managed to salvage a scrap of paper and produced a rough ink sketch which I promised to develop later and maybe color. Three months passed, while the sketch languished upon my desk. Eventually, I gained enough inspiration to produce a couple of clean ink sketches, with the intent of coloring the better one. Coloring took most of this week and involved the sacrifice of several of my Prismacolor pencils. (WHY do the leads keep breaking on my Prismas? I'm switching to Lyras.)
This was such a fascinating creature to draw and color! I wanted to place her in a serene, majestic natural setting, lounging upon a moss - covered promontory overlooking a cove, sheltered by towering trees under a benign sky. The little birdies were an extra touch - I just had to add birds. :> I added the squirrel almost as an afterthought - right now is is oficially Squirrel Time, with the little buggers scampering and barking all over the place.

I remember seeing the original sketch for this at the Roxy (I think). You did a VERY nice job on the final piece. She has an interesting, original design, and I think you certainly did it justice. I appreciate the vibrant colors and the thoughtfulness you put into all the details. She's a believable creature in a believable world.
