Yours truly with a WW2 German Nebelwerfer 41 rocket launcher at Rock Island Arsenal.

The allies called this weapon the 'Moaning Myrtle', the Soviets hated it. It could ripple off all 6 rounds in a couple seconds with a range of 7500 yards (6900 meters) firing a 15 Cm high explosive rocket.

I once had the chance to buy one of these back in 1982 for a couple thousand, and wasn't fast enough.

Hated it, yup.

Copied it, you betcha; the BM-14. I recall seeing video of it being used in Afghanistan, and the Taliban still use it.

What surprises me is that after the war no one really tried to replicate it. Both Nato and Warsaw Pact kept conventional light artillery.

Actually the Soviets were into unguided artillery rockets in a big way both during and after the war. The U.S. and British had their own systems as well. However the U.S. went primarily into missile research until the MLRS program.
