The story is located below.
On October 7th, 2010, Micah went to sleep in a raptor costume and had the following dream:
It was raining outside and Em couldn’t get the water in her cup to fill up. “Can’t somebody help me?” She yelled and spit out a mouthful of water. When the liquid from her mouth hit the ground, it turned into snakes and slithered off.
“I can help,” a utahraptor said, reclining on a nearby rooftop. The gravel under Em’s feet was slippery and since she was barefoot, her toes felt like claws. The raptor stared at her and swished his tail back and forth. Like a cobra eyeing a snake charmer, Em was held captive by the tail’s movement.
“I need to find a way off this rock,” Em said, gesturing to the desolate city. Its skyline was filled with smoking holes trailing up into the stars where they still twinkled despite the suffocation. “My cup won’t fill up. Can you help me?”
“That depends on what you want to fill it with,” the raptor said, suddenly standing. Em was now entranced by the slow rhythmic movement of his breathing.
Em’s view backed away from her eyes and she saw herself receding into the distance. She stood up over a diorama of a city with two figurines soaking under a showerhead in a bathroom. The cardboard buildings were melting away.
“That was strange,” Em said as she picked up her cup of water from the sink counter. She stepped back, felt something pierce her heel and spilled the cup over her shirt. Em looked down and saw a teddy bear with a needle. Its mouth slowly opened in a silent scream as the liquid from Em’s cup fell off her shirt and into the bear’s mouth, one drop at a time.
Em saw the inside of its stomach where a green field rested with a single tree. There was darkness all around it, as though the field was suspended in a black void. She saw herself pick off a fruit from the tree, eat it, grow a tail, and fall off the side into the void. Em watched the zero population field for a few more minutes. Nothing moved.
Then, she woke up.
