Okay so a friend of the family came over and said idolly if the big spider out front was still there. Of course I didn't know about any big spider out front so we went out and this guy was just hangin out by my front door.
I nearly flipped my shit! I am afraid of spiders. I don't mind if they stay outside or are behind glass but OMG. I have never seen this type of spider before and this mother fucker is HUGE. He's bigger then the wolf spiders we get around here. I mean this is Maryland, there should not be huge exotic looking spiders D:
So I pose the question...does anybody know what sort of spider it is? I certainly have no clue and neither does my mom's friend.
Edit: Thanks for the info guys :D
(Sorry if the photo is sort of shitty. I'm only willing to get so close...)

EWWWWW ha ha my picture would have been so blurry because there's no way I would have got that close to that thing. I'm so scared of them its ridiculous, I'm happy Alaska doesn't have too many spiders, we get the occasional odd ones. The other day there was one the size of a quarter that was jumping at people if you got too close to it, that blew my mind and I was bugging out. Hopefully you get your answer!
That's a garden spider :3 There are 2 kinds of garden spiders, I like to call one the cross spider and the other a skull spider. The cross ones are brown with a cross on their backs, and this one is is a 'skull' one because of the skull shape.
This spider is not poisonous and is pretty harmless. You're lucky, I think these spiders are beautiful, enough so that I made a character based on one :3 See? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3970446/

Black-and-Yellow Argiope (Argiope aurantia) aka garden spider -- Harmless to humans. I know because one of those big bastards made a web IN MY CAR overnight. so I looked everywhere for the pictures and stuff. They're huge and freaky and im not even scared of spiders. I live in Texas and they're also in NC. I'm sure they're kinda all over
It was my first time to ever see one, i've been in texas for like 22 years. D= It scared the crap out of me, the web was huge and i was late for work. I still cringe when i think about it. Mine was about 2 inches big. i saw another one at my parents house that was about 2.5 inches big (that one was outside)
I've seen one of those before. I saw a massive 1 foot Goliath Birdeater tarantula one time though in my Mom's yard. I wonder if it was someones pet that got loose, but I didn't mess with it, sucker was huge, just sittin' there on the side of the fence while I was mowing grass. xD
Hehehe, had one of those in our basement before, Spider as big as a plate...
Mom didn't believe us, so we ran inside and grabbed her (MOM, not the spider!) Turns out that Connecticut is just one of the states that the bird eating spider is native to. Never seen it since.

I actually found something almost like this spider except extremely large. I was just a kid but this thing made a fucking hiss at me when my mom got near it. This black and yellow striped type of look of a spider was like this cept much more stripes and much larger, I would say 6 inches big I shit you not. Thing tried to attack my mother and me course my sandal became the weapon of choice to kill it since it did the whole legs up HISS of terror. Anyone got something that might resemble this let me know. It was odd that we found it when we live up in the northeast in Pennsylvania.
