the design on the dragon´s tail makes the creature really frightening, I couldn´t say why, but I feel it like that. could be because resemblance with insects somehow?

Yep-yep, I am sure that it might have a relation to the fact this tail was indeed inspired by insects - wether it's a silverfish or a kind of mayfly, and though both are totally harmless...
