I don't have this problem as my switch tends to fall back down without proper water pressure. It doesn't stay up unless the water is running through it, or at least not for very long.
I have used shower stalls though, which have no tub, so it all comes out of the shower head instead. I try not to stand in the path of the spray, but it's pretty much inevitable that you'll get hit! Sometimes, ya just gotta brace yourself and wait until it's warmed up.
