Whew… I finally made it. Woo…. huff…. I climbed... all the way up here. I didn’t... even... use my wings… not once! Well, actually… that’s not entirely true. I did use them. I used them quite a lot, but I didn’t fly! Not a single flap, not a single time.
Why didn’t I fly? Well, this is a special place. It’s gorgeous. Beautiful. A one-of-a-kind place like nothing I’ve ever seen before. There are cliffs and canyons and rock formations everywhere and the rocks are colored so brilliantly. So I’m not allowed to fly here.
Yep! Not allowed. Who says I’m not allowed? I do! I’m a dragon! Nobody else would tell me what to do, and even if they did I just wouldn’t listen. It’s a rule I made up for myself. In the Land of the Red Rocks, I won’t allow myself to fly. It seems silly, but it’s actually quite fun.
So why won’t I fly here? I fly everywhere. I fly all the time. It’s so convenient and it’s so great and I feel so powerful and fast when I fly. If I wanted to, I could have gotten up here in a matter of seconds just by flapping my wings. But then I’d be here. And then I could be over there atop that Mesa. And then over there. And it would be done.
Instead, I spent all day getting up here, but that’s a good thing! I spent all day in this wondrous place... All day relishing in it. All day in the brilliant, golden sun. All day smelling the ferrous, orange rocks and dust. All day feeling the sand through my claws. It took me hours to navigate through that canyon over there, climbing about looking for a way up.
And then while doing that I saw tiny birds nesting in the cliffs. I got hungry and …. Uhhh, let’s say the birds aren’t happy, but the nests were filled with these reddish eggs, and they were delicious! What a joy that was.
But now, I am finally here. I made it! I got to the top, and wow what a journey that was. Now, I said I wasn’t allowed to fly here, but if I fall off this mesa…. Well, let’s just say I may catch myself. So…… what if I do…. This!
