"...there is an entire civilisation.
"There are tiny, tiny homunculi, busying themselves with their day-to-day tasks. Their world is made of the data you put on the flash drive. It gets packed into small boxes before being shipped to the Datamasters, via the Universal Serial Bus. It is so called because it manages their entire Universe.
"The Datamasters, you see, learn from the data you give them..."
I wrote this for a webforum I frequent, when someone was complaining about the lack of original content there. To be fair, everyone really was just posting image macros and coolface; it was quite bothersome. I've begun reprimanding people for it since. Anyway, in response to the accusation of unoriginality (which was not in the least directed at me anyway) I looked at something in the room and wrote about it; it happened to be my 4GB flash drive. This was, oh, three weeks ago.
When I started writing this I had no intention of making it as long as it turned out to be. I initially planned for it to be three paragraphs at the maximum.
The thumbnail was drawn by none other than me, for two purposes: to practice shading with my two new ebony pencils, and to distinguish this work from the others labeled with the boring grey "STORY" button written in that ugly font.
If you have any criticism for either the drawing or writing, I'd love to hear it. I am always in the interest of getting better at things.
