If there is one thing that cannot really be said about zashani. It's claiming they have any particular broad identity or set of values. The very name 'zashani' being most often used by outsiders.
Zashani socio-political groups are distinguished, like all species across the Dranvamus galaxy, in broad groupings known informally as 'clades'. Communities of shared origin, history and cultural values. Zashani differ in that while a draknir or deonari might recognise themselves by those names - adopting the civilisation-state models found in the Imperium and many of its clients - zashani identify themselves primarily by their clade of origin. Only begrudgingly accepting the name 'zashani' as a sign of ignorance about their intricacies by outsiders.
While there are many such clades across the galaxy, and even groups that might be within or share features each other, three primary groups populate the the galaxy's Inner Rim:
* Sacrenar - Found primarily in the Sanctuary circuit as officials and elite soldiers of the Fourfold Church. Making homes and livelihoods along a fortified line of worlds bordering the Sanctuary and Twilight Spin circuits.
* Khamet'ati - Zashani often found in the Imperium's core sectors, among their noble houses, and in the settlements of the Dragon's Reach circuit.
* Zakhané - Inhabitants of the various independent or (semi-independent) communities in the Twilight's Spin circuit and parts of Dragon's Reach. Making their homes on worldships and communes such as the ancient Pouz-jok arkship Zakhander.
Bad blood can does exist between clades; what might be self-evident for one clade might be disgraceful to another. And the various groups have shed blood between each other either as independent actors or as client states and mercenaries for the other galactic powers. Sacrenar marching to war on Zakhané communities chanting the litanies of the Fourfold Church or the warlords of Axartus raiding neighbouring systems being two examples.
Super in-love with this project and how it came out! It was several months' work that involved poring over all sorts of references and ideas with the species' creator (a big contributor to Imperium Draknir). Like the Draknir, they have their origins deep in the first fiction ideas.
