My lynx spider (Peucetia viridans) having a snack :) The green lynx spider is the largest in North America and is the only known spider which sprays venom from its fangs in addition to injecting it in its prey.

They rarely bite humans and as most spiders, don't have a very painful or harmful bite. The worst it would do is sit there and eat the occasional smaller insect that might go in your closet :P

Also, I think Scytodes also bites as well as spits...but I'll have to research that a bit.

I had heard of spitting spiders that hit their prey with poison-laced silk, but never heard of a spider spraying pure venom like a cobra before.

Spitting spiders don't spit silk. They squirt sticky venom from their chelicerae. It does not come from their spinnerets.

Ah, my bad. I was under the iumpression it was some form of silk due to how it looked when it hit the prey. One question though; the toxin employed by a spitting spider, since it affects the prey without having to be injected, would that make it more of a poison than a venom?

Very impressive. I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid in Houston. I remember we had goldenrod plants in the backyard and the females would construct nurseries near the tops of the plants in the late summer & fall.
