fortuna was telling me a little bit about her shapeshifting demigodess Tanhu'ni and her parents, while she was drawing them. Tahu'nis father, a god, was seduced by a white kitsune, said to be a powerful shapeshifter. When I saw the picture of her, I knew Tahu'nis mum Liu'ma was not of the cute, cuddley kind but dangerous. And when Fortuna finally came up with the picture of the father, I had an idea how the both of them might have met. But... I may be wrong of course.

The god turned his head down. It was nothing more than a thin scratch. But it ran the full length of his chest from his right collarbone down to the short ribs on his left side, crossing his heart on its path. A golden liquid began to fill the scratch.
Slowly the god turned his head up to face her. She was beyond beauty. Rulers would have given their kingdom or started wars just to catch a quick glance of her. Nevertheless he had seen beauties like this come and fade through the ages he had lived to see; mortal toys for the gods. But the white kitsune who was standing in front of him was different. She had made a god bleed.
Bright blue eyes stared at the god. The kitsune didn’t back away in fear. She was just standing there, cocking her head mockingly. She lifted her right hand to her muzzle and the god saw the delicate tip of her tongue play over the claws, tasting his blood. This insolent little mortal dared to tease him.
His voice rolled over her like dark clouds announcing the coming of a thunderstorm: “Very well. You have earned my attention. Speak, mortal! What is it you want?” Only few mortals could listen to his voice and not break into blind panic. The white kitsune’s ears flicked, as he spoke and she couldn’t help but back her head away a little bit. White kitsunes were said to be shapeshifters. Maybe she was just about to turn into a sparrow and flee him. But she maintained her stand.
“You!” This word, this one little word… no answer could have caught the god more by surprise than this one word. For the short moment of the glimpse of an eye he wasn’t sure if he should just smite her for that. And just then he saw what made her different. This gleam in her bright blue eyes; this hungry gleam you’d find in the eyes of remorseless tyrants, of religious fanatics ready to sacrifice their lives… or in the eyes of lovers; an all-consuming fire that would inflame worlds and would never die to the end of all days.
“What’s your name?”
The white kitsune’s lips slowly spread into that same teasing smile again: “Liu'ma”
