D'awwwwww, he's so shy! I would guess it's largely because there's so many other people seeing him in this situation!
Personally, my vote is for him to be gay, or at least bi.. But he is HUGELY self-conscious. Even if he does actually like it, it embarrasses him, and even scares him in some ways; but in private, he purrrs over it very much ^^
