You Can Lead A Horse To Water

The house was growing quiet and still as Oasis finished up the dishes, placing them in their homes in the cupboard to rest for the night. She reached for her mug of tea from the counter and took a slow sip, it was still a bit mellow and needed a few more minutes to steep. She let out a sigh, gently draping the damp dish towel over the edge of the sink to dry before resting a gentle hand on her rounded belly and stretching her back out a bit. She was so over being pregnant at this point, just a few more weeks and her baby boy would be bundled in her arms.
She made her way to the living room with her tea, excited to relax after cleaning up dinner and dishes. Her three year old daughter's movie was nearing it's credits. The filly's ears were perked forward, watching the show attentively in the dim glow of the lamp light, blushed blue flashes of animated joy danced on her face from the television. Oasis rested her mug on the coffee table mildly annoyed to push some empty cans out of the way before looking to her exhausted husband. He was out cold nestled into the plaid pattern of the couch. Today was his night off from work and he had stayed up all day to make the most of it, his chest expanded deeply with sleeping breaths. "Grim." Oasis said softly, usually that was enough to wake him, but he was crashed after staying awake well over 24 hours. The three beers he downed after dinner didn't help much either.
Oasis smirked, noticing the little ponytail in his mane that Fanti must have given him when he nodded off. A few stickers that Fantasma had patched on his shirt while he was snoozing. "Sweetie, do you have more of those?" Oasis asked her daughter, still attentively watching the tail end of the movie. She looked back to her mother then showed her the sheet of remaining unused stickers. Oasis raised her brows with a mischievous grin. Oasis made her way to one of the hall closets and grabbed some of her daughter's crayola markers and the brightest nail polish she owned, kept well out of reach except for special occasions, or an opportunity like this.
Oasis pulled a pink marker from the yellow package, popped the cap off, then scrawled two big hearts on Grim's cheeks. He didn't budge, just let out a big huff of air in his borderline snore. Fantasma laughed as Oasis handed the markers to her and encouraged her to add to her father's new decor. Oasis waddled herself back to the couch, lifted Grim's dead weight leg and sat down on the couch, placing his foot ontop of her lap softly. She let a soft giggle out as fantasma added purple and green to Grim's neck.
"Dad's gonna get mad." Fantasma beamed to her mother.
"He'll laugh." Oasis replied to her as she gently picked up Grim's hand, opening bright purple polish and making a few swift swipes of color on his nail. "He does this to his friends all of the time." She added, thinking to the amount of times their friend Orion had been plastered and graffitied on their couch after a few drinks too many.
Fantasma added a few more stickers as her mother happily polished away, reaching for her tea between coats of polish. The girls relished in this opportunity to prank the relentless master of jump scares and smart ass remarks.

This piece is actually a redraw from a piece dating back to 2017. I'm adding art to my newish Instagram account chronologically and cringed too hard at the old piece. It was time for a full hearted redo.
This is just before little Eli is welcomed to the world, Grim's been drinking for two for a little while at this point.

He's gonna be the prettiest stallion on the block, when they're done with him.
I stumbled across this on the front page, and just had to take a look. I love the detail that has gone into this, from the empties and clutter on the coffee table, to the stickers and graffiti on the sleeping boy, to all the little touches including the ripped out knee on his jeans and that cute little pink plush behind him. It's such a charming little scene, too, and the vignette to go with it really helps bring the whole thing to life. That and you draw such lovely equines, too!

Absolutely everything I live about your work is so well presented here. Very charming characters, incredibly deep environment rich with detail. Wonderful linework matched with colors bright yet muted just right. And a scene so identifiable and effortlessly charming it’s impossible not to smile. Just love it.
Nicely done family scene. You got Oasis' third trimester down pat.
I guess Grim is sleeping off a few beers. Thus allowing Fanti to decorate him.
On a side note, Myself and a couple others at cons would pull stunts on those that passed out from heavy drinking. One guy was just in his boxers fast asleep, on his belly, another artist and I literally COATED him in Sharpie ink 'tattoos', all derogatory, asinine , teasing and very very juvenile. From neck to ankles. Hoyt finally got up to take a piss and a few minutes later we heard him HOWL with rage as he caught a look in the mirror at himself. Screaming at us, Then my friend and I said we covered him in art worth over a couple grand...be happy you shit! Hoyt blinked, then oddly accepted it! Actually didn't shower a couple days showing off his 'artwork'.
