Both, sorta. I let it get super duper long which is a big part of why some people have been waiting so long, but I also took commissions in a weird way that allowed the potential for people later on the list to get in ahead of people higher on the list, so not everyone who was on it waited for seven years.
Basically, I can't expect for people to be ready at the drop of a hat to take a commission after x number of years, so I eventually reached a point where just going down the list in order stopped working. So I started just publicly announcing "Hey, I'm open for commissions, who wants in?", giving priority to anyone on the waiting list, starting with whoever had been on the longest. That works for the most part, but some people maybe don't check FA enough to catch the openings or for some other reason never get around to signing up despite being on the list, so as a result we've got a few people who've been on the list for an eternity at this point. I'm trying to clean 'em up now!
