He finds that souls are a much more tasteful and sustaining food than the rotten flesh and the forces of death that some of his siblings partake. Also, to fill himself with the life-force of another being brings an ecstasy that no other sustenance can.
About his clothing: The style of clothing he wears is similar to the styles designed between 1500 to the late 1600s. The white coat is thick, but breathable, and has a tight collar. The collar is covered by a simple ruff that dates back to the 1570s. The leather pauldrons are dyed a deep navy blue, along with his thin leather cuffs.
The trousers are thick and padded on the inside similar to styles from the late 16th century.

I am pleased with how this came out, but it took much longer than anticipated, and I feel at a loss when it comes to clothing sometimes. Maybe I should do some cloth studies or something? The highlights and shading also seem a bit messy. Still, overall it was a success.

dude you're getting so much better! the lighting in this is excellent, and I'm loving your painterly style. I'd like to see you even push that style further. I feel that one of the biggest improvements in this is the use of texture, and how you're becoming conscious of what texture to apply and where. There are some areas where it needs a little more consideration, like over the beginning of the tail where the background is a little blurred. And i mean, when it comes to blurriness, I'm the asshole in my critiques who always points it out. It rarely ever looks good, whether it's vine charcoal or pencil rubbings or photoshop. Just be conscious of the mark making in your pieces, even in the background.
Oh and I think the face and hands are gorgeous! You're really variating the line and it looks great--too many furry artists use a straight, clean line that can become very stagnant and uninteresting.
and as far as the clothes... it's just a matter of practice. using references will help a lot, maybe do some studies of clothed figures. I think you have the body down pretty well in the nude version. I have problems with clothes as well, even one line put in the wrong place can make everything wonky. Nothing you can do about it but keep trying to get it right! it's tough!
great work, catter! I love following your work and watching your improvement! I don't wanna sound like an asshole when I give you crits, I'm just treating it like I would any of my classmate's work! (and by the way, your work is a lot better than more than half the shit these "art students" turn out)

Hehehaha! Wow! Thanks for all of the tips!
I love critique of any type so don't worry about stepping on my toes or hurting my feelings.
Actually, the tougher the critique the more I improve. I handle it very well. Besides your critique was not mean at all.
Thanks for pointing out some things. You were able to point out some of the problems I missed.
I do plan on giving more traditional textures such as paint, charcoal, and oil pastel type feels to my art so you will see more in future works.
I'm really glad you noticed the alteration of line here. I was really trying to get some effect with that.
I wish more people helped me as much as you do!

Well It's nice to help someone improve who has an interesting style and loads of potential. I think what I like most about your work is that it looks so different than most of the furry art on this site... you have a unique style that is really intriguing to me. Too many people who do anthro art try to make it look like everything else they see... clean lines, no variation, no textures... boring! Your work is very different and you're someone who is actually taking initiative to consciously improve.
seriously good work and I'm super stoked on that icon! :D

Heh well, you have potential too. Let's both improve. :D
Thanks again.
As for the icon, I was going to leave it as a surprise, but I might as well tell you.
It's style as far as line and color is more like the icon I have right now (Glance), but I'm putting a lot more effort into it because I'm going to try to edit in other frames to it in Flash to give you an animated icon.
Let's just hope I don't fail miserably. Cross your fingers.
