It's all about technique! The one who has fish to give away wins.
In the U.S. comic strip Pogo by Walt Kelly (long out of print, except for a reprint edition), a little groundhog or woodchuck baby named Grundoon could get catfish to jump out of the river and into his arms by 'talking' to them. His speech was a garbled string of consonants, so the task would be difficult for others to master.

Just the other day I read about a method of catching the catfish, using one's own hand as bait. So I'd watch out with that tail!
Also, good that it's not winter. I recall a Russian fable about a she-wolf trying to use her tail as a bait, only that it got stuck frozen in the water.

especially if it's a catfish named Kahn. XD
huh. and who came along to take advantage of that situation? fox, crow, a human child? the only russian fairytale I recall is about the hunchbacked horse, due to a lovely animation from russia they showed on german TV when I was a kitten.

It was a vixen who tricked she-wolf, if memory serves.
Kahn, I'm not sure if I heard of that one?...
And on the topic of catfish, this bizarre video always comes to mind: https://youtu.be/1EFGqlRjQ8o

aha. :) sounds legit.
on one hand, Kahn is a chatracter from early star trek series, someone who proved to be a pain in Cpt Kirk's butt... and is also the name of a giant catfish from the Liberty Meadows comics.
kurwa, you guys surely grow strange critters in your rivers... o.0
