People often ask me: "Holy bejesusing Christ, Stripes, you get so many fucking commissions, how the hell do you remember all of them?"
Well, I don't. That's why I resort to the power of Excel to palliate to my retardness. And anyway, it's a lie, no one ever asks me that.
Every commission I'm getting, or hoping to get, is slotted into 5 categories, depending on how far in the process it is.
"Not reserved" are commissions that are barely thought of. Nothing has been done yet for them to be realized.
"Reserved" means I have a spot with the artist, but no description has been sent.
"Ordered" is when a description has been sent, but no payment yet.
"Paid for" is the depressing category. I paid for the commission, but it's yet to be completed. I sometimes add notes, like if the cost was split, or if it was paid for at a convention.
Finally, "Transaction finished" is when everything is done. I have the 100% finished commission in my possession, and the full payment has been done. I also added dates, but I stopped doing that yesterday. I never update this thing often enough for them to be accurate anyway. Plus, they're useless. I just wanted to be fancy.
NOW YOU KNOW EVERYTHING.

It's alright in Word. It doesn't have the same "readability" as Arial, but I find for most of the documents where I have a lot of numbers and things, it's really nice to look at. it also makes great headings with a larger, bolder style. I confess it's become my default font. ^^
I hope I'm this busy soon and I wish you a lot of continued business. ^^

This is awesome.... Not the whole spreadsheet thing, although that makes sense when you're trying to keep track of more than a thousand dollars worth of commisioned work. What is awesome is that you have all these quality commisions at reasonable rates. I was looking through FA for people taking commisions, and you find a lot of people asking hundreds of dollars! The most expensive thing on there was Jay Naylor's peice, and that's not too bad either, at 85.00. Kudos for searching them out! I'll have to contact a guy or three.
Maybe you should charge for advertising. :P

Yeah, I know. The most I paid for a commission was 90$. Unless you count commissions which cost wasn't split. Some artists charge real high for commissions, but as long as people are willing to pay for them, I don't blame them. *chuckles* It goes especially high in auctions. Wolfy-Nail is doing one at the moment, and it's up to 600$ now. That's insane.
I don't really "search" them out. I've had to abandon my hopes of getting commissions from certain artists because I didn't want to pay so much. I don't blame them or say they should work for less, but I don't wanna let myself spend for much for... you know, pictures.

I just use a simple text with notepad: Name of artist, price, payment status, misc notes, which I update as needed. Maybe I'm scared at looking at how much total I've spent. I've splurged $315 on http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3717084/ and am quite happy with it.
