On The Beach At Night
(Note: The following writing may or may not be present in the final writing!)
After the trek up the cold, unforgiving mountains, and the near-miss with furred reptilians not unlike her mother, Stella and Malefactor were flying for a while, the cold air nipping at Stella's frozen form. She could barely feel her arms, and could barely move her claws anymore, but still she flew, keeping up with Malefactor as best she could despite her inexperience with flying. They didn't land until the mountains sloped down and the land met the ocean. Stella hovered in the air for a while as Malefactor went to investigate the ground, to make sure they weren't followed. It gave her a moment to think... And something about the mountains gave her a cold, shivery feeling, and that there was something that she couldn't shake about them. Maybe she could have been overreacting; after all, it wouldn't be too far-fetched if one or two of them were her grandparents, right?
Stella, when she was younger, had wondered about her grandparents, but anytime she brought it up to her mother, she would be shushed and told that in due time she'd be told. Of course, that time came and went and never came to fruition, and with how her mother had treated her over the years, she found herself not really interested in meeting her grandparents either. But in the moment, the thought of meeting them made her heart race, and not in a good sense.
Malefactor flew back up and made a gesture that it was safe to land, so Stella glided down and joined him, wings aching a little from how long she'd been flying. Malefactor was preening his feathers, a few having been rustled from their panicked and hasty escape, and Stella could see he'd lost another primary. It was becoming a little worrying, but birds molted pretty often; it probably wasn't any different for Malefactor.
They rested for a little bit and huddled together to warm up, but Malefactor was still vigilant, surveying their surroundings and looking at the ocean. Suddenly he tenses up and hopped, his wings flapping as he went closer to the see. Stella got to her feet as well, a little alarmed. "What's going on?"
"Oh! It's one of the many islands from my homeland! I didn't think I'd be able to see them again," Malefactor informed Stella, walking closer to the beach as the waves crashed. A warm breeze went by as Malefactor took to the sky again, hovering just a few feet up in the air away from Stella. "A sight for sore eyes!"
Stella squinted, but the sun was in her eyes, so she covered it with her claws in order to see what Malefactor was talking about. Nothing but endless waves crashed in the endless, vast water, and it made Stella nervous with all that open water. Malefactor landed beside her, and pointed in a direction. "That one isn't the one I'm from, but if I'm correct, I know exactly where we are right now!"
Stella looked over and gasped; faintly in the distance there was a bright yellow beach, followed closely by emerald green trees. There wasn't much more to say about it, it was only a faint sight after all, but Malefactor began to crash into the water, getting his feathers wet and fluffing up his feathers, and Stella faintly recalled how the water made him smell a little weird, but Malefactor seemed to pay no mind to that as he looked back over to Stella with a twinkle in his eyes.
"Hey, Stella, do you want to see where I came from?"
