I imagine that this was perhaps a case of good intentions, Mr Matactl trying to comfort and make out that a nosebleed might seem a bit scary but it's not a big thing. A joke and an affectionate gesture for a Cipocatli child would probably work well but not for an adoptive Zaw-Afikh child and sometimes Cipocatli aren't the best thinkers.
