Oh yes! The fire department LOVES putting on their demos of "Flaming Turkeys of Death & Destruction" every year about this time. And as you say, there are always idiots that manage to make flaming stereotypes of themselves for the occasion.
This wuff LOVES a deep fried turkey, and have made several of them over the years. With due caution, they're very safe (and amazingly tasty!). Such crisp skin, and so juicy! And they take far less time in the oil than the oven.
