Tanya, 6Teen style
Well, almost.
I've been wanting to imitate this sort of Illustrator-ish line-less style since I first spotted 6Teen during one of my forays into Ottawa for the now-defunct C-ACE convention. Upon finding a simple sketch of Tanya that I have no idea what it was intended for, I chose to take a whack at coloring it in as little time as possible. Well that never works--this one took about four hours, which isn't too bad, considering I haven't watched the show this style is based on since it's series finale (I watched it on my laptop while heading to Anthrocon this year).
This pic marks the break of a four-month long dry spell (except for What the Fur and Anthrocon artists' alley stints) in which I was occupied with a commission, as well as being the 400th pic posted in my gallery. Because the scan was less than half a page, this pic wasn't one of the multi-thousand pixel extravaganzas, but it still took up 34MB with about thirty levels of lasso-tool generated shapes. In "honor" of the inspiration for this pic's color styling, I hacked together a backdrop that kinda-sorta looks like the inside of a multi-level mall. In conjunction with this style experiment, I took a shot at defining Tanya's lower lip in a more prominent manner, giving it a full, rounded appearance rather than just suggesting it with a shadow.
Lasso-tool trace of a pencil drawing, coloring and backdrop done in Micrografx Picture Publisher. 34MB at full-size uncompressed. 31 layers of objects, not including attribution logo/text.

I believe that is the case. Along with Flash.
I actually have an academic version of Flash 4 that's been siting atop my desk ever since it was the latest version. I never got around to installing it, instead using an old version of Canvas that I got off a computer magazine CD (the first few pics in my gallery were done with it)...and years later I'm still imitating that look with a program that's about as far from Illustrator as one can get :)

Ah yes... 6Teen. Nicely made show, well written, absolutely not to my taste. Too much Seinfeld influence... that is, plots constructed mainly out of hanging around and nothing happening, and problems that consist of wearing the wrong colour sweater. It's exasperating when something is done so well, but interests me so little.
