I think you can only do that with a .gif, and only the background is transparent ><

well, if you can figure out on how to keep the background transparent with Open Canvas 4 without having to move the art i'm doing into 5 different programs to get it transparent? So i can do a full piece in OC4 and have a transparent background for it?

oh. uh. i use cs4. maybe if you use oc then copy pasta to cs4 for the background?

ooh! Simple then. When you are done with the pic, go to your layers box and merge the layers (transparent). After this, somewhere on that box is a 'save' option. If you save it this way, the background stays transparent,
