Fun fact, the main point behind this character is that dragons in this world are inherently magical beings, but he was born without any connection to that magic.
Even so, like CyberLightning said, scales are tough but not impenetrable. For a warrior who often puts himself directly on the front lines and fights all sorts of nasty beasties, the added protection is a good thing.
