It's always been my bro in all of the games, I haven't gone one run without using it. And Gyarados makes for one of the best Disc One Nukes ever. 8D

Do what I do, find trainers, set magikarp as your primary pokemon, then swap him out with your best on the first turn, beat that pokemon, then when it asks if you want to change pokemon, change back to magikarp and then switch back to your best and repeat.
exp goes to all pokemon in the battle, even if they didnt fight. you prolly knew that already but meh .w.

Yeah, but it's noticeably more effective early on than later. It still mauls the hell out of everything at any time, but getting it so early when most of the mons you're fighting aren't final evos makes a huge difference. In FR, I evolved Magikarp by the time I hit the S.S. Anne, and it singlehandedly took down Blue's team without breaking a sweat. And this was back when Crunch and such were still Special moves.
