Niko Niko Island was notable enough to run for ten years and have one video game. The game is terrible though, do not download it!
It aired on NHK television which also had a lot of successful American shows on it. You can still find episodes on Youtube at least, but good luck learning anything else besides the fact that is starred cat, mouse, and penguin who all lived on their own little island.

actually their names are Pikkoro (the penguin), Porori (the mouse) and Hanimaru kun (the cat.)

they were on the same channel and probably produced by the same people (NHK.) Looks like Okaasan to Issho, which still runs today. It focused on dancing and exercise in a fun way for small children. The Niko Island characters probably came out for some cross-promotion.
