Trying to do a decent reference of my character Chaos. Slightly startled to realize that "herm" and "transgender" are my genderqueer choices, I could swear there was another. But eh. Herm is close enough. Intersex would be closer, zie is not massively oversexed in both genders, which tends to be how "herm" gets used but whatever.

Taken the in original context, herm would be right. Blame the furry fandom for twisting it. Actually, if I remember right, wasn't Chaos a bit young? I seem to recall something you posted to LJ about that.

Eh, even without furries, "herm" has been considered inappropriate and crude for a long time. Intersex is the more usual term for real live people with real physical gender ambiguity.

Only because true hermaphrodism doesn't occur in humans, at least not with any level of functionality.

That's the deal though. Chaos is NOT a functional hermaphrodite. Zie is pretty asexual, because zir bits don't work terribly well.

(And if I've confused you, it's because I *have* changed zir species. I had a bit of an epiphany when I realized that a chakat really wasn't what zie was at all. Not even remotely.)
