This is an awesome drawing, and Hector looks like a fun guy! Having him wink and put up his left hand are great ideas, and you drew both very well.
About the only suggestion I would make about your drawings is that you might want to invest in some drawing/drafting paper so that the lines of notebook paper will not get in the way. Then again, if you are using the lines of notebook paper to ensure you are getting your proportions correct, then I would stick with what you are doing.

My suggestion is to go out and get an ebony pencil and an artist's eraser which will allow you much greater flexibility in terms of your drawing. Pencil is the way to go especially with your type of freehand sketching.
As for paper, I would at least get the regular copy machine paper so that you have a blank slate from which to work. However, if you have a couple of dollars to spend, then sketch paper is the best way to go.

Actually, I did notice that flaw, but I did not want to bring it up as I did not want to hurt your feelings by pointing out all of your mistakes. I can tell you put a lot of effort into the drawing, and I wanted to be gentle with my commentary.
On the topic of the paw, it really did throw me for a loop, and I ended up taking my own hand to see if I could do the same position as your character!
