Seen here striking a fighting pose with a patriotic background, Doughty Dog is a superstar border collie who serves the G-52s, having taken a U-turn after an embarrassing past. Here's the bio on him:
Doughty Dog Bio
Name: Doughty Dog
Species: Border collie
Nationality: American
Altername name: Dennis Dougherty
Gender: Male
Occupation: Formerly unemployed and living as a full-time superhero (until he was exposed as a fraud). Having gone through rehabilitation and behavioral obedience training (he is a dog, after all), he now works in the warehouse storage section of a beverage factory, driving the forklift. He also works this blue-collar job in spite of being wealthy; while he wanted all the fame and glory from his first era of superhero stardom, he did not want to live like a millionaire. He had a short stint making license plates during his prison term.
Appearance: Large and muscular border collie with blue eyes.
Hometown: Wildcat City, Kansas, USA
Age Immortalized by CNG: 23
Battle Uniform: Blue and yellow form-fitting outfit with yellow boots, gloves, belt, and cape. (He doesn't wear a mask.) In the center of his chest is a large "D" in white. (He later changed the white "D" to yellow.)
Alternate clothing: Varies. On formal occasions, he'll wear a black suit-and-tie outfit (with black pants and shoes), and a red tie. He might also choose a black tuxedo with a black bowtie. Today, he uses the formal wear as a representation of his old self, and also the lessons he learned.
Superpowers: Flight, super strength, super-hearing, super high jump, super breath, X-ray and heat vision, and hypnosis abilities. The hypnosis abilities happen when he lets out a big smile and shows his pearly white teeth, but due to interference from another set of CNG immortalizing another being, the rest of the G-52s are immune to the effect.
Bio: Dennis is one of the few superheroes who (at first) became the epitome of everything Super C didn't want in the G-52s. From his early days as a puppy, he had issues with being narcissistic and self-centered, with a big ego to match his huge muscles. In his autobiography, "Barking Up My Own Wrong Tree," he writes about how he learned it from his father, but his mother didn't approve of such behavior. "Thus," he writes, "it does always go back to the parenting." CNG affected him at the age of six, which gave him his superpowers (and may have boosted his ego; according to experts, CNG has been known to affect behavior and one's single personality as well as immortalize and mortalize folks). Whatever was the case, he didn't have many friends considering he wanted to be the star. It didn't stop him from being a 4.0 student and basketball team captain, however. "I may have even played against WARCAT," he recalled, "for the two schools he and I went to are direct rivals."
Dennis came from a wealthy family, so he felt a job wasn't necessary. He became his own superhero, but he felt that his ego needed to be fed. So while there were occasions where crimes were genuine and he would fly in to save the day, he later began setting up his own disasters. Using his hypnosis spells to his advantage, he won fame and popularity, and when he got to where he was elbowing in on the G-52s' home turf, he got the public (and the mayor) to temporarily fall for him and ignore them. Mayor Clarkson was first to recover from the hypnosis, but Super C advised him to go with the act for a time, so he did.
As Doughty Dog, Dennis first began hogging the spotlight and glory when a lightning strike set a significant portion of Wildcat City on fire, and he blew it out with his super breath. But the rest of the chain reaction of events were ones he set up, in this order: a robber grizzly bear holding up a raccoon citizen at gunpoint, a train wreck (done by Dennis bending and tearing apart the tracks so that the train would fall, and then he grabbed the train, set it back on the tracks and sent it on his way, and then repaired the tracks with his heat vision), two sets of bank robberies, and a gang harassing an elderly couple. All of these helped Doughty Dog make the headlines, and gradually push the G-52s out of the minds of the citizens in favor of having the canine be their sole protector.
Dennis eventually got so used to setting up the disasters himself, that he forgot how to reply to genuine acts, so the G-52s, employing a dragon named Grason, gave him a taste of his own medicine. This was done when Grason was advised on what buildings he was to destroy and rampage (having already been condemned), and the dragon grabbed Doughty Dog and began terrorizing him, revealing him to be a cowardly wimp. Eventually the crowds began to boo and hiss him, and the police arrested him after the G-52s "thwarted" Grason's "rampage."
Because the prison and rehabilitaiton departments of Wildcat City are renowned for their miraculous works of rehabilitation, Doughty Dog was out of prison after two months, and he paid the rest of his sentence with 200 hours of community service and a fine. Super C later added him to the USA wait list (because he wants foreigners), but had to delay him longer when the STOPS organization rose to prominence, and began terrorizing furries with their warped and twisted beliefs. (And a STOPS member did attempt to rob his house one night, but Dennis fought back, surprising him and leading him to famously yell, "I thought you were a fraud!") The Cat of Steel also announced, "But there is always hope. If he can make the U-turn forever for the better, there is a chance we can recruit him and teach him the meaning of teamwork, just like we did with Cripto by putting him in the National Guard."
Doughty Dog has his own theme song (which he was allowed to keep), employing a full symphony orchestra and full SATB 8-part chorus.
Quotes: "I am the finisher of felony! The destroyer of destruction and disorder, and the basher of the bad! I am..." *(poses)* "...DOUGHTY DOG!" (recurring catchphrase)
"Yes! Yes! The fire was caused by lightning striking your buildings, but I set up the other disasters myself! That way, I could go in, save everybody, and get all the press coverage, fame, glory, and recognition! Now help me out of this!" (when confessing himself after the G-52s called his bluff)
"Yes, I do want to change my ways for the better. But these STOPS freaks don't want me to do that." (press conference)
Theme song: Doughty Dog!
A hero to all mankind!
Fights the battle to the end,
Never going blind.
Fights for freedom,
Never dumbing down,
Always there to aid the weak,
Forcing foes to frown!
Loved by all!
He'll never disappoint!
We'll never lose our faith
In Doughty Dog!
Seeking truth, defeating fibs,
In the skies is where he lives;
Finding ways to protect us all,
He's our dog, standing strong and tall!
Doughty Dog!
A hero to all mankind!
Fights the battle to the end,
Never going blind.
Loved by all!
He'll never disappoint!
We will never lose our faith
In Doughty Dog!
