A monstrous shape emerged from the shadows of the soot stained fireplace. This was no jolly benevolent elf – Krampus had come. Soon the misbehaving cub that lived here would feel the sting of his bundle of birch branches, and then into his basket they would go - never to cause mischief again.
But something was wrong, his special senses could detect no trace of misbehavior associated with the cub who lived here. Am I in the wrong house? He thought. He concentrated on detecting his target, and picked up a strong sense coming from outside. “They’re in the house next door” he growled quietly and turned back toward the fireplace.
Krampus had been so focused on detecting his target it hadn’t heard the soft footsteps coming down the stairs. “Santa?” a soft sleepy voice asked.
Krampus turned in the direction of the voice spotting a bear cub. He could sense the toddler was well behaved but he couldn’t just let himself be seen. He decided to scare him so badly he would run back to his crib in terror, confident his parents would consider it just a nightmare.
Krampus reared up in a terrifying stance, eyes glowing red as he growled menacingly.
The cub stood there blinking the sleep from his eyes. “Why grumpy Mr Goat? You shouldn’t be grumpy at Christmas time” Then the cubs face brightened “I’ll fix!” and started running toward Krampus with arms spread wide.
This time it was Krampus that knew fear …
