This is the second painting in my I-Candy series. Acrylic on 18x24" canvas circa 2005.
EDIT: I will repost a better image as this one was taken with a cell phone camera and touhed up with Photoshop. Sorry if it causes any problems...

Stubborn, sporty, doesn't care, and a little sloppy...that's Rama! I like his 'little slugger' outfit and red/white seemed like a classic baseball color combo. Also the little 'F' on his shorts is from my imaginary furry clothing/gear line called 'Furban'. You can catch it here and there (snowboards and surfboards will have a logo on them, too).

Ha! I was gonna make a little joke about that; just don't mention it to Rama...he might not take it very nicely This character and a couple others I jokingly call "The Get Along Gangstas". If you don't recall the source of my bad pun----http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Get_Along_Gang
They're cornier than I remember
I guess everybody wanted to make a Carebbage Patch Puppy...

They were pretty cute and all, but talk about problem children!
It's funny how universal the 'community' cult of cartoon characters occured in that decade; the Surfs, the GA Gang, Care Bears, Monchichis--were us 80's kids that f'd up? I guess our hippie parents wanted to bring a little communal feel-good magic into our lives, too.

Don't forget the Shirt Tales! ;)
You know, I avoided watching those cartoons because most of them were pretty bad. I liked the Care Bears movies, but that was about it. That's not say I didn't watch them [i]at all[/]; better bad cartoons than no cartoons, I guess - though I've since reversed my attitude on this point. :P

Shirt Tales!! I loved them, I'll admit. Tyg mainly...and I still regret that my mom never made me that Halloween costume...
Yup, pretty much stopped watching Sat. morning cartoons in the late 80's when they just got bad or were replaced with golf footage or talk shows. Luckily the Disney Afternoon and WB toons came along :) (by then I was already tired of Ren and Stimpy)

Thanks :) I should do more with this character. Rama comes from an east Indian family and rebels against tradition. He's a bit of a grump and defiant but fun-loving (not always legal fun). I often thought he could be an emcee ala The Pharcyde; sort of goofy but serious enough.
FATLIP!!! You get so many cool points I can't even count 'em.
True story: Back in 2004 when I worked at Starbucks, somebody once came in and asked if they could put some flyers on the counter for folks. I said sure (not really policy but then I'm a rebel).
First I thought they might be rave flyers or something, then I looked and they had "The Pharcyde in concert" with artwork from the cover of 'Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde'.
I looked back at the dude and said "Wait, *THE* Pharcyde?" Then he pointed to two guys behind him. I must have looked totally rediculous with my jaw hanging open as Bootie Brown and Imani stepped up. Everybody laughed and I was all "NO WAY!!" So I can say I made coffee for at least two members of the group, and got an autograph
Only sad thing was no Tre (Slimkid) and Fatlip...but I did have the fortune of seeing all of them live in '94...
