Patron saint of the radio waves
They/them and she/her. Nonbinary demigirl. Usually but not always prefers masculine terms of address (ie actor not actress, king not queen, sir/mr. or ma'am/ms. both work, but Ela is never a guy or man.)
They run a local afternoon/late night radio show and front for a cover band they started with their childhood friends. Have had a rough time so far, but they're at a good point now. Used to be a very angry, volatile, gay man before coming into being a trans woman, where they traded volatility for emotional instability, trading one set of boxes and labels for another. Troubles with image and self worth, lost opportunities and lost love. Trouble with the band, too. It was only after a number of things settled, in their love life, their friends, their work, that they found what they wanted; to take it easy and stop worrying so much about trying to fit into one specific idea of what they're supposed to be. Once they realized this, they finally settled into the person they are now. Cynical, jaded, angry but chill, "not friendly, but kind" Ela st James, patron saint of the radio waves.
One of my more genderqueer character, transfemme but sometimes wears a binder and dresses masc, and has frequently shifting feelings about gender. They have a kind of willowyness and refined fashion sense, I think. They really are chill, but also actually a huge nerd who very carefully curates their image. Whatever vibes you get from them are intentional. When they started transitioning, they trained their singing voice to be a little more feminine, but not much. Local critics began praising Ela and her band for their "exotic" sound. It's a mixed bag.
