a commission of ferrel and anzel, for the wonderful
anzel.
background was intimidating, but i tried this tutorial and while i was concerned i'd end up with mud, in 45 minutes i came up with something i didn't think i was capable of. i'm really proud. i had no idea a really paint-y looking BG could be so fast!
i hacked together some armor designs from recommendations from anzel. it was NOT easy! X3 the sketching and inking phase took a few days alone.
armor is NOT my forté, which you guys know... but i think i did something i was able to deliver to anzel and be proud of, and i'm thankful for that.
flame brush for sword from redheadstock at DA.
light beams brush from obsidian dawn.
dead flower petal texture (ground cover overlay) from http://mayang.com/textures.
sword is inspired by a design from stonewurks @ DA at the request of client.

THIS right here, is something you need to think of whenever you feel you may not be capable of something. Tell yourself you have done this, so you can do anything you put your mind to. Even if you stumble a bit, it doesn't matter. You can screw up that imaginary digital piece of paper and chuck it in the waste paper basket. Forgotten, gone.
I am so glad to read your artist's comments this time around particularly, this shows two very positive things. One, that although something felt daunting, you were able to achieve something you never expected, and as a result can put a notch on that belt of yours and you know you can taken something valuable for future work away from it.

Our discussion about armor on that journal the other day means that I understand how this statement is full of pride and achievement. I know I am sounding scarily like a personal coach or soemthing, maybe a cheering squad XD But seriously, as an artist I understand the sense of pride that you get from working hard on something you're not confident about, getting through it and then sitting back when it's posted on FA and thinking to yourself "actually, you know what... I did good on this!"
I know this sounds really silly and patronizing, but it isnt meant that way I promise. I am really glad that you feel proud of this piece, because believe me, you ought to be very proud of it. It is absolutely lovely, I think that despite your worries over the armor (not forgetting how it probably gave you a lot of trouble to get to the finished product) that it came out brilliantly. It looks great because it looks like it serves its function and also is very symmetrical and consistant at the angles that the two heroes are stood. I particularly love the red armor the most, it just looks fantastic to me and of course, being a fellow girly WoW nerd I am loving the blood elf paladin sort of look to her too.
I'll scoot off now and stop sounding weird... for the moment anyway D:!
