I wonder if maybe the protogen felt sorry for the alien goo trapped inside the container, so it was more of a purposeful accident to free a captive. While the goo might be curious and exploring by touch the different textures of the protogen, this might also be the equivalent of a hug. Perhaps the alien goo and protogen will become good friends and there will be many such 'hugs' in the future.
