Night Shift Laundry - Getting the Band Together
Ben is transforming, but what really changes about his life isn't his body. It's a chance to do something new and exciting.
Commissioned by a generous and patient person! This one took me too long. Originally I'd planned to go into more detail about Aden and Caroline and then have an extended plot about the band becoming famous. This was "scope creep" and I got stuck for a while.
Things I imagine happening later include:
-Bethany tries to write artistically good music, ambitiously creating a sort of rock-opera storyline, while dealing with suddenly being an ottergirl. That causes problems with the practical need to find an audience and get an album done ASAP without it being junk that bothers Beth. (I'm thinking of what the song "Mister Roboto" and its album did to the band Styx, which argued over storytelling vs. conventional music.)
-Turns out there's a second group that bought the Trio brand. Retroactively they're in a boy band called Fluffside, and already have an album depicting them from behind with their big squirrel, raccoon and skunk tails displayed. Much like Tonalwave, they're very surprised to learn this.
-They'd also like to get in contact with the other people in on the "shared fiction universe" in which the Noah Virus isn't real. Somebody going by "Agent Ringtail" claims to have information and a support group.
Come to think of it, this story is also different in that it really is disruptive of the changed peoples' lives. These three have lost their careers, such as they were, and are now launching into a music career that might or might not have any success. I imagine none of them wants to be some short-lived fad relying completely on the novelty value of them being non-human, though there's pressure to make money by playing that up.

Both song titles are real; the Beach Boys did both!

The "Agent Ringtail" is the raccoon from the first story and from the book that has a second story about her.
