A friend of mine and I noticed that both of us practise thumbnailing waay too rarely. So we met on discord to do some sketches together c:

Great work!
Shapes and depth are nicely distinct from another and each one has its own theme to be unique!
I think my favourite would be the second from the upper left because of the very contradicting structures and weird circular 'ground' making me very interested in how the rest of this world would look like.
Did you two follow any guidelines, tags or time limit to go off of?

Thank you! I'm so glad you think so c:
I wouldn't count it as a guideline, but most of the time when I do these I try to make up places that could fit into a personal story of mine. A common theme for these are deserts, canyons and other weird rock formations. I really should practise other environments tho. I struggle a lot with forests for example, but often find myself having trouble leaving my comfort zone to actually practise those x)
Besides the theme I just focused on using four grey values max. It helps keeping things nice and simple. And no, there was no time limit.

Sounds fine to me. I assume your personal story is about your character living in this barren Sci-Fi world? It's good to approach your studies with the hindsight of finding potential purpose for world-building and such. But at the same time, this is what could keep you from trying something new.
I'd suggest, think about the closest thing that would be possible to a forest in your setting. Maybe there are some weird plant-like structures that grow in lakes of sulfur, rendering the area quite dangerous. Or have a forest-like plant structure grow in caves where there could be completely different atmosphere, allowing it to be dense and life-inviting.
